Ghost Hunting        1/1/08

Ghost hunting, paranormal research, paranormal psychology, supernatural investigation, etc, etc. These are all terms used to describe my newest venture. The world of the great beyond. What comes next. The questions people have been asking since time began. I as a member of a group of like minded individuals will endeavor to answer. The Bangor Maine Ghost Hunters Association.

As some of you know I will not let things go. I take action, put in the effort and test the limits. Unfortunately this is not an exact science. Most of what we know now comes from theories that people use to explain their experiences. Some are backed by facts and evidence, some come from folklore. The believer will see evidence with every encounter of a noise or feeling. A true skeptic will not be convinced with even the most concrete evidence.

I am a critic. I believe something is out there and going on and this is why I am vesting so much time into this. Any evidence I present as proof has to be solid. So, I tear everything apart and look at it from every angle possible to be sure that what I present has no other explanation, other than paranormal. I hate to be wrong, but I am open minded. Show me the facts and I will be convinced and converted.

My background comes from fire investigation, suppression and prevention. I know fire very well. I know what causes, spreads fire and traps people in buildings. I know the beast. I have been an EMT. (emergency medical technician) most of my life. Death is not unfamiliar to me. I have a back ground in electronics. Gadgets are my friend. I have taken many psychology courses and have dabbled in magic and put on many haunted houses. I know a lot of the tricks that fool the mind.

It would be so much easier to find something accept it as fact and be satisfied and move on, but that’s not me. I have to know what’s going on. I have to be able to explain what I have found and prove it. Then I can be satisfied.

The following entries will reflect this.
Mike Co-Director

Balance 2/15/08

Investigating the paranormal is a balancing act. First setting up a time to do the hunt and then keeping the clients on track and trying to keep them from backing out. Getting your team members together and getting them to the site on time. Finding people you can work with and getting them to a level of training that will work. Doing the hunt and then reviewing the evidence in a timely manor. Analyzing the evidence and revealing the results so as not to embarrass or enrage the clients.

You can find a lot of people that want to go ghost hunting, but can you get them trained so that the evidence will be reliable. You can find well trained investigators but can you work with them. I have been in organizations like the Lion's club where the people I was working with were the greatest people in the world, however to get them to work together and make results was damn near impossible. I have been in other groups where the meetings were nothing more than bitch sessions and nothing got done, but they had the highest level of training and certification that you could find.

I am so lucky to be part of this paranormal group. We have about 20 members and we all work well together. The level of training and expertise varies, but the team always comes together and works like a machine. I like to get the stuff together and set up and get it done, all business, but the Director is much more personal and keeps things light and fun. I enjoy collecting and analyzing the results, but reviewing the endless hours of tape and pictures is impossible for me with out the help of a few key people.

The hardest balancing act comes when you review the evidence collected by civilians and getting suspicious results and then finding hard core evidence and presenting that to the clients so that they will accept it and be able to use it to help themselves. If done wrong the revel can upset the very people that you are trying to help and the results will be worse than finding nothing at all, while the clients are being scared out of their minds.

With other things that I do I have been in places that were devastated and in utter turmoil, however when things seemed to be as bad as anything could get, people came together and did way more than would ever expected to help complete strangers out. I wish everyone could experience this overwhelming spirit without the turmoil that causes it.

I believe I am part of a group just like that. Individuals with a wide range of expertise and resources that can put personal differences aside, and as a group do amazing things.

This is the definition of Professional.
